Welcome to my little piece of the electronic world on Word Press.
The purpose of this blog is to honor my late Mother Karen Ellen Dennis Mastromonico. The name 11315miles represents how many days she lived. She passed away from complications of colitis when she was 31 years old. Leaving behind a husband (31), me (8) and my brother (3). This blog came about because in my 40s I decided to start running for my health and was looking at a way to honor her spirit and in essence healing that loss in me. One mile for every day of life.
Although, the beginning stages this blog was clearly about running, I have also added cycling to my mileage quest. I am in my 7th year of acquiring miles on my own, participating in events and sharing my experiences along the way. I had no idea how much writing this blog would change who I was as a person and woman dealing with this type of loss early in life. I’m not unique, there are many out there like me, suffering this loss.
I hope you enjoy it and would love to hear your comments.
Happy Miles to You:)
Laurel

I quit smoking a year ago January. I hadn’t run in over 20 years. In July of 2013 I joined the gym and worked my way from a 19 minute walking mile to a 10:30 jogging mile. Running is so amazing. Here’s to your journey Laurel!

Laurel, I really enjoy your blog and the meaning behind it. It’s a wonderful tribute to your mother and helps you keep your own life in perspective. I am pleased to see you have a new bike. I cannot run any more but enjoy cycling a lot. It is easier on the knees and, quite frankly, more fun. Keep at it.
